I've been doing a bit of writing for The Spectator which I am really enjoying.
There is a new article of mine which is in today's edition about "The New York-ification of London" - it's all about overanxious, overachievers, fancy dress dogs and Alpha Dads.
I've uploaded a PDF, but if you live in the UK buy the magazine so that I can prove to Matt D'ancona that I can help generate revenue (or you can read it on the site...)
The Evening Standard have phoned as they wanted to do a follow up feature, but none of the Alpha Dads wanted to talk to a journalist...have a read of the article, it'll all make sense
that's a really enjoyable read. Looking forward to more soon.

Here's what's been going through my head about the headline "New Yorkification" of London. In my opinion, "New Yorkification" is really a symptom of globalization and the 21st century in general. NY was the first city to show "major symptoms" of globalization/free markets/capitalism and hence justify the recently coined phrase "new yorkicifation".
My point is, I bet you could find similar stories of "thrusting" parents going the extra mile for their off spring from Buenos Aires to Prague. "New Yorkificaion" is not confined to London.
Also, the fear of a woman being judged, by other woman, on the state of their manicures may happen in NY but I bet you the standards you birds judge each other by are much harsher in Paris and the other Euro Latin countries.
But I have heard that bitten nails, hairy armpits and legs are a political statement in Germany and not a sign of being lazy or fancying other woman. But I haven't been near an Anglo Saxon Euro country for at least six years so what do I know?
