If I had trusted Twitter then I should never have bothered seeing Bruno.
Click on the Trending Topics section and you will be confronted with a series of tweets like this:
Although there were positives, gut-feel initial reaction just felt all wrong.
So when I tweeted about what a letdown Bruno was and my recommendation that people should just wait for the DVD, Indy Saha tweeted me back with this Time article "Bruno: A one day wonder." They note that while the opening Friday night was enormously succesful ($14.4 million in one day), if the audience rate holds up, Bruno was set to do $50 million over the first weekend. The Friday figures certainly supported that optimism, but the movie plummeted nearly 40% its second day, to $8.8 million.
"Brüno's box-office decline from Friday to Saturday indicates
that the film's brand of outrage was not the sort to please most
moviegoers — and that their tut-tutting got around fast. Brüno could be the first movie defeated by the Twitter effect."
Unlike a quick Twitter-search for the move The Hangover (officially the feel-good movie success of the summer grossing over $200m and staying strong in terms of holding audience numbers week on week) Or my favourite movie of the year so far "Anvil! The Story of Anvil"
The moral of the story is that I should have trusted Twitter...
You're just a rock chick - however much you try to deny it.
