This is one of the classic design images of the US Presidential Election.
It was designed by the famous/infamous Shephard Fairey, he of Andre the Giant (Obey Giant) fame. Its a great story - a limited print run of 350 sold out within minutes, Fairey then produced wild postings for Obama supporters to plaster across the US. He was promptly arrested.
Its such a clear, simple and powerful piece of design. Tutorials began spring up online.
Have a look at this brilliant site that collates all the online homages to the Fairey original.
These are a few of my favourites.
I can't recall the last 3 elections where I've seen this much co-creation of work behind a candidate. Is it because we're in a period of people co-creating w/brands or we're just passionately involved in this campaign?
Here's a link to an interview with Shepard Fairey and the story behind the poster.

That's a good question. I guess like most things its probably a bit of both - we are living in an era of co-creation and participation and now have the tools to create and share content like never before. However worth remembering that people are creating parodies of things they don't like as well, its not just the things or people that inspire us.
Thank you for the link BTW - its great!

'Nope' is possibly the finest piece of copy writing I've ever seen.

This whole thing is brilliant. I managed to get my hands on one of the 350 posters and have had it framed. It now proudly sits on my wall. It's an incredibly powerful piece of art.
Nope is sheer genius. It brings me back to the notion of grass roots support that I studied in school history lessons about the demise of the Liberal Party in the UK in the period just after WWI.
There really is no substitute for it. And full marks to anyone who can energise their supporters to be so brilliantly creative.
